The future of the world is in a classroom today.
We partner with a local high school that wants to change the future of the young ones. We want to change as many lives as possible, by sharing our knowledge and experience.
We help Fountain High School with their new technical track. Students learn about trade which will enable them to find a job. We do not tend to send everyone to study university but rather focus on craft and practical approach of education. We find out what people are doing and help them to do it better. Through technology we enable poor communities to build on their skills and knowledge to produce sustainable and practical solutions.
We fervently believe that what students in impoverished regions need are not more academic skills, but rather life skills that enable them to improve their financial prospects and well-being. These include financial literacy and entrepreneurial skills; health maintenance and management skills; and administrative capabilities, such as teamwork, problem solving, and project management.
Our primary classroom is in the field.
DEMONSTRATION (Hands-on experience)
We have established demo fields close to the high school, in which we test crops and cultivation methods. Students and village leaders can visit and find inspiration on how to optimize their use of available resources. Within the next few years, we plan to expand this facility with more income generating activities (IGAs), e.g. honey bees and animal husbandry.
GET YOUR OWN TRAINER
We began a new initiative which provides an assistance in education to employees of our partner organizations. We run workshops led by our own educated staff - trainers. Trainers demonstrate different methods to the participants. It is not only a theoretical experience but they have a chance to practice all the new gained skills as well.
WORKSHOPS (From help to self-help)
We help families, where some have lived up to 20 years in refugee camps and had no access to any education. Many suffer from AIDS. They regain their self-confidence after workshops on agriculture, nutrition, hygiene, HIV-AIDS, equality and simple bookkeeping. We help them organize themselves in credit/savings groups for them to improve their negotiation skills, e.g. when buying or selling crops. The new relations and resources make them part of a network in which they help each other.
